{"id":7,"date":"2007-04-11T06:42:37","date_gmt":"2007-04-11T14:42:37","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/pricedoutforever.com\/blog\/2007\/04\/11\/7\/"},"modified":"2008-08-26T13:55:00","modified_gmt":"2008-08-26T21:55:00","slug":"7","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pricedoutforever.com\/blog\/2007\/04\/11\/7\/","title":{"rendered":"New York Times: Now is not a good time to buy."},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Speaking of Buying vs. Renting, none other than the New York Times agrees that <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2007\/04\/11\/realestate\/11leonhardt.html\" title=\"A Word of Advice During a Housing Slump: Rent\">now is <strong>not<\/strong> a &#8220;good time to buy.&#8221;<\/a><\/p>\n<blockquote><p>By the Realtors\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 way of thinking, it\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s always a good time to buy. Homeownership, they argue, is a way to achieve the American dream, save on taxes and earn a solid investment return all at the same time.<\/p>\n<p>That\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s how it has worked out for much of the last 15 years. But in a stark reversal, it\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s now clear that people who chose renting over buying in the last two years made the right move. In much of the country, including large parts of the Northeast, California, Florida and the Southwest, recent home buyers have faced higher monthly costs than renters and have lost money on their investment in the meantime. It\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s almost as if they have thrown money away, an insult once reserved for renters.<\/p>\n<p>Most striking, perhaps, is the fact that prices may not yet have fallen far enough for buying to look better than renting today, except for people who plan to stay in a home for many years.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>3&#8230; 2&#8230; 1&#8230;  <i>Duh.<\/i><\/p>\n<p>What&#8217;s interesting to me is that their <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2007\/04\/10\/business\/2007_BUYRENT_GRAPHIC.html\" title=\"Is It Better to Buy or Rent?\">interactive Rent vs. Buy tool<\/a> returns results very similar to <a href=\"http:\/\/pricedoutforever.com\/more-rent-vs-purch.html\" title=\"Buy If You Must.
